Possible sale of Facebook

November 28, 2007 By: admin Category: Internet, Web Development No Comments →

Facebook.com has generated a lot of buzz and popularity that as members goes up a lot of companies have voiced out their interest in buying facebook.com from its original owner and founder Mark Zuckerberg. After the sale of rival networking site MySpace to NewsCorp. In 2006 lots of rumors started to float around with regards to the selling of facebook.com to a much larger company.

Contrary to rumors, facebook.com founder Mark Zuckerberg has continuously denied reports of a sale, saying he does not intend to sell facebook.com yet at the time being. In fact Mark Zuckerberg has already rejected a $975 million offer from an unnamed company.

Although serious talks with Yahoo concurred in 2006 and in October of that year Google also joined in talks about possible selling of facebook.com, it is rumored back then that Google laid out on the table a $2.3 billion offer.

Many xperts and some board members of facebook like Peter Thiel meanwhile, believes that the real value of facebook.com is somewhere around the $8 billion mark.

In September of 2007, Microsoft offered a deal suggesting an investment setup wherein there would be a 5% company stake for Microsoft in addition to paying facebook.com about $ 300 to $ 500 million for the shares.

PageRank Party - The power of internal linking - An experiment

November 27, 2007 By: admin Category: Link Building, Web Development No Comments →

I just wanted to mention what effects internal linking can have on the pagerank of your website.

Most of the inbound links for SKSoftwares are for the homepage. Less than 0.4% of the total number of inbound links, link directly to an internal page on the site.

This was an experiment to demonstrate the effect internal linking has on pagerank.

Most of the pages on this site got a pagerank of 4 (thanks Google!), I had taken care, to properly interlink the pages on the site. So, as a result of the careful inter-linking/cross-linking of the pages, most of the pages, like Contact Us, Services, Blog, etc, got a PageRank of 4 also. I consciously did not ever link to the About Us page on this site (apart from the main menu.)

The result - The about us page still has a PR of 0, whereas other internal pages have reached PR4!

This is the power of proper, effective internal linking!

Facebook Apps - Craze of the Season

November 13, 2007 By: admin Category: Web Development No Comments →

Facebook is the craze of the season, and almost everywhere, in all countries, people are getting hooked on to Facebook. Facebook Apps are basically embedded Web Apps (Web based programs) - these include games, videos, and other innovative applications.

So Why are Facebook Apps getting so popular?

The reason is that any developer can cash in on Facebook’s popularity. All you need to do is make an application, and subit it to facebook. They will add it to their website, if your app adheres to their rules and regulations. Now, once it gets popular, you just need to sell advertising space, or add you Adsense codes or something, and that’s instant cash flowing in!
